Parvez Rasool: A story which has Kashmir in it

I first hear about his story few years back from one of my Kashmir friend, who told me about how brilliant cricketer he is and how constantly driven out because he is from Kashmir. For me it was again a case if Kashmir people feeling let down by the country. The incident that changed very much his aspiring career was the chinnaswami stadium Incident, where he was arrested by the police for suspicion of having some explosive which was found in stadium. Later he was released by the police but that would have left a huge mark in him. Some people recover from that situation and some go deeper and start feeling aggrieved about it.

Fast forward this year, in domestic cricket he is the best off spinner in India right now and also he can bat. But the problem will be always why he is not selected, a state which is on the brink on everything with nation it is really hard to find some good story of success. I am not saying he is not picked because of he is from Kashmir, but see this how come Harbajan singh make a comeback without performing in domestic level, rohit Sharma get repeted chance and other are dumped out of squad with just few chance. This Indian selection committee always baffles me to know how they pick up a team.

This is not a cricketing story but can a be story of state who are looking for hero’s apart from political leader, I hope he get right chances after this performance so people can see his potential. I am not sure about getting that but it might be right time to give him the due for only his efforts to come back from the mental trauma he might have gone through last few years.

Once, someone asked him if he had a doosra or teesra (variations). His reply was brilliant. “Agar aapke paas pehela hain, toh phir doosre ya teesre ki koi zaroorat nahin (if you know how to bowl the conventional off-spinner, you don’t need the wrong ’un or any other variations)!”

His coach of  J&K, Bishon singh bedi said recently, I hope he dreams of an India cap, not an IPL contract. Once you break into the national team, someone or the other will engage you in the IPL. The IPL, by itself, is too small and too snotty a dream. I hope he works harder, gets runs and gets wickets. I wish him luck.
